I am not a professional Resume Writer however I have talked to professionals about resume writing and have found some things that work and some that don't. The cover letter is the first impression that you will make on a hiring manager. If they like it they will check the resume. If they don't, they will probably stop there and go onto the next. You want to grab their intention.

The cover letter is the first impression that you will make on a hiring manager. If they like it they will check the resume. If they don't, they will probably stop there and go onto the next. You want to grab their intention.
- Each cover letter should be customized to the job to which you are applying.
- The first paragraph should be a synopsis of your career and why these experiences make you the best candidate for this position.
- The second paragraph should be a synopsis of your compensation requirements and your ability to travel.
- Your contact information should appear at the top of the letter and be sure to include your e/mail address, land line and cell phone info.
Objectives
I have seen a lot of varying opinions on Objectives. I personally agree with what Mike Baumgartner says here. Real life professionals in the career services/resume writing field have shared this opinion also personally with me. I've had better luck removing it from my resume but you decide, do what works best for you. If you are thinking about whether to put it on here is one opinion
